Welcome to Mals and environs
Diversity all around
1051 m a.s.l.
Sunny Mals in the Oberer Vinschgau is the second largest municipality in South Tyrol by area. Between the Malser Haide and the slopes of the Sesvenna Alps, the village spreads across a wide high plateau. The variety of its hamlets, each with pearls of history and culture, gives Mals its unique character.
Cobblestones, historic buildings and cosy inns invite you to stroll, discover and linger in the well-kept village centre. Markets, events and the proximity to Switzerland and the Reschenpass make Mals a popular place to live and stay. The Romanesque Church of St. Benedikt with its frescoes from the 8th century is one of the oldest sacred buildings in the Alpine region.
The story of the village with its former 7 towers and the historic bunkers from the inter-war period are part of the rich cultural heritage of Mals. Mals is also rich in hamlets: Laatsch, Schleis, Burgeis, Tartsch on the mystical Tartscher Bühel, as well as the rural hamlets of Matsch, Ulten-Alsack, Planeil, Plawenn, Schlinig and Prämajur at the Watles - each radiates its own charm.
