Welcome to Taufers im Münstertal
cultural highlight between south tyrol & engadin
1240 m a.s.l.
Taufers im Münstertal is the westernmost village in South Tyrol and lies directly on the border with the Romansh-speaking part of Switzerland. Together with the hamlets of Rifair and Schlossoir, Taufers has around 1000 inhabitants and stretches from the historic Calvenfeld to the border river Rom. Here, where the famous Battle of Calven once raged, life is now peaceful, welcoming and full of tradition.
The Romanesque clustered village charms with its tightly built houses, quiet alleys and surprising number of historic buildings: Romanesque churches, chapels, old hospices like St. Johann, and the castle ruins Rotund and Reichenberg shape the village flair. The influence of the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site of St. John’s Monastery in Val Müstair can still be felt today.
Taufers im Münstertal is full of history yet free from tourist crowds. If you are interested in culture, border history and alpine originality, you will find fascinating traces of a lively past. Its natural beauty, fresh mountain air and authentic village life make your stay in Taufers wonderfully pleasant.
