welcome to Schluderns

Between markets and middle ages

921 m a.s.l.

Schluderns lies where the Upper Vinschgau merges into the Central Vinschgau. This sunny farming village with its Gothic parish church of St. Katharina, its well-kept lanes and painted façades, is nestled between orchards and gentle hills directly below the Churburg castle, one of the best-preserved castles in South Tyrol and proud landmark of the village, home to a unique armoury collection of European fame.

A documented village statute from the 13th century shows how important this Vinschgau settlement once was. History comes alive in the Vintschger Museum, which opens up the world of irrigation channels, everyday life and mountain farming, and along the archaeological educational trail to Ganglegg, the most significant prehistoric hilltop settlement in the entire Alpine region.

The spring and rosary markets are annual opportunities to discover regional specialities and local crafts. Schluderns is also the birthplace of the Haflinger horse: in 1874, the foal “249 Folie”, the founding sire of this globally popular breed, was born here. Breeding enthusiasts and horse lovers love to visit.
