“Mask Off” transforms a hypothetical wedding into a
surreal, exaggerated dream world that pushes the cultural and
social contradictions between South Tyrol and the rest of
Italy to the extreme. Through this gloriously crazy
celebration, the play deconstructs with biting irony the
stereotypes of village life and makes visible the oppressive
corset of intergenerational and cultural
expectations that the protagonists must fulfill.
