Due to its architectural history, St. Benedict's Church in Mals is one of the most interesting churches in the Alpine region. It houses rare frescoes from the time of Charlemagne. Characteristic features include the round-arched doors and windows. Inside the church, behind the round-arched windows, are three altar niches and two pre-Romanesque donor portraits. These frescoes, created around the year 800, are among the scarce surviving examples of Carolingian wall painting.
